Tomorrow, April 8th, we will experience a solar eclipse and here are a few details to make you aware of as the event will take place while students are being dismissed, on the bus, and arriving home. The timeline for the solar eclipse in our region is as follows: Begins at 2:18, Peak Eclipse at 3:31, and Ending Eclipse at 4:40. Students being dismissed tomorrow will need to be picked up before 2:00 pm. Teachers will inform students of the importance of being safe and not looking directly at the sun. We are providing solar eclipse glasses to all students. Also, teachers will remind students that the glasses allow us to be safe during the eclipse. Upon dismissal, teachers will be reminding students to look forward or down while being aware of their surroundings, and again, not to look at the sky during the event. After sitting on the bus, students are to put their safety glasses on and to have them on for the entire time while sitting on the bus. At the arrival of their bus stop, students will remove the glasses and hold them in their hand while departing the bus. Again, students should look around and be aware of their surroundings, not to look up at the eclipse without their glasses. Students will then have their glasses at home for the event. Again, it is an exciting time for us with this rare and incredible event! We look forward to coming back together as a school tomorrow! Please know that we have been informing students of the safety precautions for the eclipse, while providing some educational information and details of this celestial event! Tom

Greetings Edgecomb Eddy Families! I wanted to make sure that you were aware that we are opening our doors to the public this Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is part of Edgecomb's 250th Celebration that is being advertised by many in our communities! We would like to take this opportunity to have our 5th and 6th grade students be “tour guides” to welcome everyone to see our fantastic school! We will have some demonstrations in our 5th and 6th grade classrooms, and all of our students work and learning will be on display throughout the building. Again, this is a great opportunity for our students to interact with the public and to share our enthusiasm for learning at Edgecomb Eddy! Feel free to join us for a tour (tours will be 10-20 minutes each) at Saturday’s Edgecomb Eddy Open House to the community! Tom Landberg, Principal

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood” – Fred Rogers Thank you to Edgecomb First Grade for leading our school in a day of play. An engineering lesson: they made plans on paper, gathered materials and put them all together. Come see what creative, imaginative, and fun ornaments these kids have been working on! Check out this upcoming co-ed Coastal Navigators session from Hearty Roots! Any of our Edgecomb Eddy students would thrive in this environment. This trip is ideal for campers who are open to learning and developing sea kayak and ocean navigation skills, participating in 1-3+ hour-long day paddles with fully packed kayaks, spending multiple nights away from home while camping in tents on islands in Muscongus Bay and actively engaging with a group. www.heartyroots.org
